My Mom, Margaret

Granny in Australia

Margaret Jane Kikendall Howatt

My mom went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2011, last Thursday. We have great confidence in her salvation by a faithful and loving Lord, so we do not grieve as those who have no hope, but we are missing her. She was unique and wonderful, a joy to those who knew her.

In a folder of her papers I found this list written on her Pooh Bear stationery:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things I Have Loved
1. Winnie the Pooh
2. Edna St. Vincent Millay
3. Amy Carmichael
4. Jazz – Scott Joplin – Dixieland
5. Katherine Hepburn
6. Grant Wood
7. Franz Hals , Rembrandt
8. Agatha Christie
9. Men’s Quartets – Barbershop
10. Letters – writing and getting them
11. Bible study
12. Ogden Nash
13. Magazine illustrators – Jon Whitcomb, Al Parker
14. Onion skin paper and yellow legal pads
15. My family – children, grandchildren
16. Paper dolls
Your mother sounds a lovely person! And her list is so interesting, I would love to have met her.
You will miss her, I know. But you know where she is!
I read this post several days past but couldn't get my comment to stick so finally came to this computer.
I love her list! Makes me wonder what my list would say ...
Your parents sound wonderful - hard to say goodbye but so much easier when you have oodles of wonderful memories and they lived a good long live.
Thinking of you at this time, no-one can take the place of a Mother but know that you have been and are loved and I send big hugs to you. Peace be with you and your family. x
Thank you so much, dear friends. I have spent the last 4 days going through my dad's 3,000 slides and 100 photo albums (I'm not exaggerating) to choose pictures for her memorial service. I see in a compressed view what a good life she had, and she knew and appreciated it. I would say she had an 'upbeat' attitude toward life. She was rich in friends, in words, in laughter. I am fortunate to have had her as my mom.
That little note brought tears to my eyes... so simple ...yet a beautiful reminder of life.
May you know God's comfort.
I love you, Holly! Thanks for all you are. Think I am going to search harder for some works of Ogden Nash.
Holly, What a beautiful list your mom left you. You will surely feel both lonely for her and also very blessed this upcoming Mother's Day.
I just wanted to thank you for the comment you left of encouragement for the book. I was so moved that you took such time to list each item you enjoyed. That just blesses us. I sent the comment to all the girls.
Easter blessings. .
with love,
Lovella
